iPod Classic Firmware Causing iHeadaches

Several reports today say the latest firmware for the iPod Classic, version 1.1, may be causing serious electrical problems for users. The Street's Gary Krakow says sites like iLounge.com and Stereophile.com have recieved reports from users who claim the firmware may be responsible for sending electrical pulses through the headphone jack and docking station.

It seems those pulses have been measured at 500 millivolts of DC, which could cause damage to any equipment attached to the player, and that includes your expensive headphones. Many iPod classic owners who left messages on Apple's forums have reported hearing a "hiss," "buzzing," and "static" after updating the firmware. But that's not all, a few users also had music files removed after the upgrade, and some iPods simply froze up so Apple had to replace them. If you haven't updated the firmware, you might want to wait a bit longer until Apple resolves the issue. If you've already updated the software, then good luck. Do let us know if you've experienced any problems yourself.
